The Director of Music, Michael Higgins, has been at St John’s since March 2007.
This is an exciting time with an increasing number of choral services, recitals and other musical events taking place throughout the year.
The St John’s Singers are a voluntary mixed-voice choir with a varied and expanding repertoire, performing liturgical music in its true context and setting. This ranges from traditional Anglican music to that of the polyphonic, classical and modern schools of composition.
On Remembrance Sunday the St John’s Singers perform Fauré’s well-loved Requiem, together with singers from other choirs within the Wimbledon Team Ministry. They also take a central place in the Midsummer Music Festival which is held at the end of June amid celebrations for our Patronal Feast Day.
New members are always welcome in the choir, and the Director of Music would be pleased to hear from anyone who might like to join. Rehearsals take place on Sundays at 9.15am prior to the 10.15am Choral Eucharist. For more information, please refer to the monthly music list, or contact Michael by email organist@stjohnswimbledon.org.uk.
The success of the music owes much to the encouragement of the vicar and congregation who see music as an essential part of worship at St John’s. Together with a beautiful building and kind acoustics, this makes the whole experience of music-making extremely rewarding
