London Open House Day
St John’s Church (1875) is an early work by Sir T G Jackson, architect of the Examination Schools Oxford, Hertford College ‘Bridge of Sighs’ and many other public buildings. He was also the architect who saved Winchester Cathedral from subsidence. He is also a Wimbledon man – he restored and for many years lived in Eagle House in the Village.
Sir Nicholas Jackson, Sir T G Jackson’s grandson, an architectural historian and a very engaging speaker, will give an informal talk on his grandfather at 2.00pm. The day finishes with Choral Evensong at 330pm. There will be coffee and home made cakes throughout the day
You are very warmly invited to drop in at St John’s, enjoy this beautiful church, and learn more about this famous Victorian architect and Wimbledon resident.
